Why are LEDs taking over?

LEDs (light emitting diodes) are taking over! LED lighting products can produce on average around 90% more light than the traditional incandescent light bulb. LEDs are also "directional light sources", as such they only emit light in specific directions. This is very unlike incandescent and CFL bulbs which send light (and a lot wasted energy in the form of heat) in every direction. Because of the efficiency of LED lamps, there has been a dramatic increase in usage. Power companies have seen the benefits of customers using these products, and customers have seen the advantage of buying them with the average life span of the typical fixture ranging from 50,000 to 60,000 hours!
